The Hero’s Journey: Why the Inner Quest is Crucial for Growth.

We all have a desire to grow and develop. For you to do that, you need to bring from within you everything that makes you the best version you can be; you need to let go of the things that have been holding you back from living up to your being your true self.

There is no white knight. You are the scriber of your story. Are you ready to answer the call?

Being at peace is where power lies. If we can’t forgive ourselves for things we did in the past, we will forever return there. Many people don’t understand that freedom only comes when taking responsibility for your actions.

We all face challenges, but running from them is the road to ruin psychologically. Most people spend their lives running from the truth, I refused to be one of them. Is this courageous or downright stupidity? You only get one life, and living with regret for the rest of mine was not high on the priority.

Do you have the determination, desire, and persistence to follow through on actions once you decide? Remember you control the present, and adapting to that situation is critical. Don’t get caught in the vague notion that things will improve without action.

Own your mistakes. We can sometimes make decisions that leave us in negative situations, finance, crime, relationships, career, parenting, or lifestyle choices. We know we shouldn’t make them, but life sometimes closes the door on alternatives.

How many people inhabiting this planet have not made decisions that have impacted them and others? I can give you a whole list of times I made poor decisions and reaped the fallout. This requires introspection and soul-searching. Mostly it manifests into resentment and anger with yourself. However, accepting responsibility for your decisions builds self-reliance and offers a platform to move forward. Time to go inwards.

Why does making change matter to you?

What happens at rock bottom?

How do you feel when you look in the mirror?

Do you accept the challenge?

Hardship contains the code to competency. Without that suffering, you will never achieve your potential. All your needs, passions, and existential goals are within you.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest if souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”

-Kahlil Gibran

Do you have the courage to step forward?

Pain and discomfort when properly deployed become an axis for growth. The real key to negative emotions is to make us act.

If there’s one area of life that always occurs, is constant, and follows along a path, it’s that change is inevitable. The journey through life will always bring change, be it positive or negative. If you learn to see change as an opportunity for learning and growth it will serve you well.

What did you learn in your darkest hour? The problem in society today is that people fear failing. They let the unknown guide them and imagine all kinds of scary events that haven’t happened. We are becoming a race built on comfort. Everything is at our fingertips. Our ancestors would probably hunt us as prey.

How are some people able to remain: consistent, focused, committed, and determined to reach their goals, while others fade away? Do they possess unique skills, traits, or strengths that mere mortals do not? In short, No. However, what they do cultivate is the power of self-discipline. So, what is it, and how can it make my life better?

We can all learn to become self-disciplined, but you must do the work. Doing the work demands changing habits, routines, and behaviours. Cutting corners is not part of the menu. Who are you bluffing anyway? Reaching your goals calls for sacrifice, execution, and self-control. How else will you reach them? Taking disciplined action daily is the path to pursuing a life of meaning. So, let’s explore how you do that.

Acquiring new skills, changing habits, or modifying routines involves willpower. Setting targets too high or jumping into total transformation mode at the outset will have the opposite effect. Let time, diligence, and consistent effort guide you. Things can always change, it’s incumbent upon you to change them. No one’s coming to save you.

Our beliefs can hinder, harm, and negate every facet of our existence. Believing what you hold to be true based on your experience can open a window of uncertainty and self-doubt. Avoid at all costs. Be open to learning, adapting, and having perspectives challenged. Growth is crucial as we move through life.

“The first and greatest victory is to conquer self.”

-Plato

Everything starts with yourself. Self-acceptance means being happy in your skin, knowing yourself, showing courage, embracing your strengths, accepting your weaknesses, and not relying on the opinions of others to feel happy. It does not mean talking negative to yourself and listening to how others view you at every opportunity.
